Toyota may keep discounts after strong March sales

Reuters -- Toyota Motor Corp may keep aggressive discounts available for U.S. consumers beyond this month after unprecedented incentives sent its U.S. sales sharply higher in early March, an executive said on Friday.

Toyota's U.S. sales surged by 40 percent in the first 10 days of March compared to the year-earlier period after the automaker offered zero-percent financing and other incentives, Don Esmond, senior vice president of Toyota U.S. sales, told Reuters in an interview.

Esmond said Toyota would evaluate March sales results and reaction from dealers and consumers before deciding whether to extend the discounts, which the company called its most "far-reaching sales program in history."

Don't understand why people are falling to this lure. Toyota trying everything to come back but i doubt the cars sold this way has the quality fixes.

Toyota is still in the business of selling cars, and not every model is affected by these recalls. Like any manufacture, quality, fit and finish has slipped over the years; no one manufacturer is exempt from this.

Odd, on the afternoon news today they reported March sales were down, led by Toyota's plummeting sales. Who's right?

I saw a new Camry for $12,000 with no interest and free maintenance for two years on TV today. Sweet deal. Unfortunately I am too poor for even that; else I would have been there looking closer.

Don't think I would buy at this time. Be afraid of them unloading their junk before they fix them.

Has Toyota made sure that all these incentive cars don't have any problems! I wouldn't buy one for awhile, at least until all the recalls are complete.

Sounds like Toyota is making a nice comeback. Should be good news for American workers and the Communities that have Toyota factories.

my wife said that toyota prices are good right now, and they are offering 0% APR financing (on probably A++++ papers - a perfect credit score and if you are a millionaire - but if that were the case WHY would you be buying a toyota?!?!) Anyways, I asked her if she wanted to buy one and she said "NO WAY!!! Are you crazy?!? I value my life a little more than a "good deal"!!!"

Still one of the most reliable cars out there. I might pick a Honda instead, but they really don't have anything that competes with an offroading 4x4 4runner or an AWD Sienna....nor does anyone else.

Toyota will manage to stay competitive despite their problems and the media harping. Over the years they have built up a lot of goodwill because of their over all track record with their usually relaible cars.
