"Electric cars only shift the energy consumption to the power plants." EV's make the plants use their own power? If you meant pollution, that's true, but early reports say it is less pollution and easier to control be centralizing it.. It also opens the door for clean energy some time in the future as demand goes up. In the mean time, it's American electricity and jobs instead of foreign oil.
