Gasoline Demand Is At An 18 Month High

The Business Insider -- Maybe all the talk about peak gasoline is bunk. With the price of gas low, and peak driving season upon us, Mastercard reports that U.S. gasoline consumption was the highest it's been in a year and a half:

Bloomberg: Motorists bought an average 9.695 million barrels of gasoline a day in the week ended June 26, MasterCard, the second-biggest credit-card company, said in its weekly SpendingPulse report. That’s 1.6 percent above a year earlier and the most since the week ended Dec. 21, 2007.

The point of reference is a Mastercard statement that more people are CHARGING for gas... Truth is, demand is down. Less people have CASH at the gas station. That ccold produce a worry for some, as well as having more people go out to look for new employers. The price maybe down now, but it won't stay down for too long.

Sounds like incomplete data to me.

It would seem the recession is keeping people home,whom might otherwise travel this holiday week-end. The report said that was the reason prices are at least staying steady or even dropping a little, because demand is down. What report does one believe?

Gas is relatively cheap and this is the time of year that many of us take to the roads. They are reporting an increase of only 1.6% over last year when prices were much higher.
