Toyota may keep discounts after strong March sales

Reuters -- Toyota Motor Corp may keep aggressive discounts available for U.S. consumers beyond this month after unprecedented incentives sent its U.S. sales sharply higher in early March, an executive said on Friday.

Toyota's U.S. sales surged by 40 percent in the first 10 days of March compared to the year-earlier period after the automaker offered zero-percent financing and other incentives, Don Esmond, senior vice president of Toyota U.S. sales, told Reuters in an interview.

Esmond said Toyota would evaluate March sales results and reaction from dealers and consumers before deciding whether to extend the discounts, which the company called its most "far-reaching sales program in history."

birds of a feather flock together; the good news is that recessions and depressions have always ended; so prepare to be the one who is prepared for the return of better economic times.

These incentives seem set to bring Toyota back from some of their problems. I just hope they can work out the kinks and get back to the business they know best...

It is no surprice that Toyota is taking big discounts to have sales. After this big recall, they are probably in desperate need to have sales. Toyota has been selling so much for a long time, that they aren't ready to go throught this fall of sales, espeically when the sales market is down.

The prices may be low, but what about the quality of the Toyotas? That mostly refares to the accelorator and brake problem. This could be another way to get ride of the in order introduce new auto that don't have the problem.

This is not the right time to buy a Toyota.

Must be blind faith by those buyers. I'm waiting for 2012 to see what technology arrives on 4 wheels. Must have 60 to 100 MPG and performance.

So, supply and demand economics does work afterall.

Lower the price and sales increase - increase the price and sales decrease. (Except when it comes to gas prices)

One of the local Toyota dealers in my area is offering a $169/mo lease on the Prius. I might get in on that if leasing a car wasn't such a rip-off.

The discounts will help as will the zero interest but I doubt if it will bring back a whole lot of reassurance just a lot of folks hoping to to, dare I say, hoping to get in on the class action suits. Some people will do anything to make a buck, me thinks.

These type of incentives may be the only way to pay the legal fees and sell off the inventory.

fire@53 informs us:

"People are trading in their Toyotas because of safety concerns."

Well, according to the article, their sales are strong, so who is right, you, or Reuters?

"Toyota's U.S. sales surged by 40 percent in the first 10 days of March ..."

Looks like consumers aren't buying all the media hype over Toyota's recalls.

I think the media is displaying biased reporting.
