Toyota may keep discounts after strong March sales

Reuters -- Toyota Motor Corp may keep aggressive discounts available for U.S. consumers beyond this month after unprecedented incentives sent its U.S. sales sharply higher in early March, an executive said on Friday.

Toyota's U.S. sales surged by 40 percent in the first 10 days of March compared to the year-earlier period after the automaker offered zero-percent financing and other incentives, Don Esmond, senior vice president of Toyota U.S. sales, told Reuters in an interview.

Esmond said Toyota would evaluate March sales results and reaction from dealers and consumers before deciding whether to extend the discounts, which the company called its most "far-reaching sales program in history."

After this big recall, they are probably in desperate need to have sales. Toyota has been selling so much for a long time, that they aren't ready to go throught this fall of sales, espeically when the sales market is down. The prices may be low, but what about the quality of the Toyotas? That mostly refares to the accelorator and brake problem. This could be another way to get ride of the in order introduce new auto that don't have the problem. This is not the right time to buy a Toyota.

Some people will do anything to make a buck, me thinks.
